New technologies continue to drive the success of companies in the construction arena. One company that has embraced emerging trends and product innovation is McMahons, a specialist in the construction of golf courses and sports fields throughout Australia.

With over 20 years’ experience, Victorian-based McMahons is responsible for many of Australia’s major sporting complexes. From championship golf courses such as Royal Melbourne, and the Eastern Golf Club, which is currently under construction, as well as iconic venues including the MCG and Etihad Stadium, the company’s expertise also extends to constructing renowned thoroughbred racecourses.

Utilising advanced technology with minimal environmental impact, McMahons maintains a fleet of earthmoving and specialised turf construction equipment, which forms part of their unique formula in transforming their clients’ visions into reality when it comes to their projects.

McMahons’ recent investment in a new Hitachi ZH210 hybrid excavator—the first in Victoria—represents their alignment with equipment manufacturers that demonstrate a commitment to both the environment and technological innovation.

Company Directors, Bernard and Robert McMahon, reviewed the market for options in hybrid excavator technology, taking into account cost savings and performance-related factors.

Robert said, “When calculating the cost savings based on the hybrid’s fuel offset versus initial purchase price, all the numbers stacked up. Another important factor for us is that the hybrid concept aligns with our company’s projects, particularly the construction of golf courses and sporting facilities.”

The hybrid is currently working on one of McMahons’ latest projects—the construction of the new Greg Norman designed course for the Eastern Golf Club in Yering, Yarra Valley.

As the principal contractor, McMahons is steadily transforming the magnificent landscape into one of Australia’s premier golf courses.

“I am very happy with the hybrid’s performance and its ability to deliver the fuel savings we expected,” said Robert. “Our operator is also very pleased with the new Hitachi model and its performance across various applications.”
